Happy New Year to everyone!
I am finally settled into my new studio in Richmond Viriginia. It’s still out of my home, but my studio is now 3 times the size of my little one in Brooklyn. It’s cozy, and spacious at the same time. I have enough room to even have my Yoga matt and do my practice daily. And it’s the perfect space to do those one-on-one classes.
The past few years has been fun teaching/instructing students and other Milliners on how to use the Straw Braid Machine. I hope to continue to do it! I know New York City is a big draw for people, but let me tell you about how cool Richmond is, if you didn’t know.
It’s like a mini Brooklyn. Food and shopping is walkable from where I live. And yet, I can also jump into my car and go 5-15 minutes to the bustling area of Carrytown, downtown Shokebottom, West Side shops, the River and more… and with absolutley NO traffic. Richmond is full of great food, new restaurants, music scene and venues, art shows and museums and the cool Scotts Edition breweries.
I used to live here in the 80s and it’s very different. It’s grown a lot, cleaner, and safer. Yeah, it still has some grit, but I love that. And it’s a college town, so it has that young vibe. And the people? They are super nice. So refreshing.
Don’t get me wrong. I still love my New York. And I’ll be working from the most eastern part of New York each summer. Making plenty of trips to the City in between.
So if you do decide to come visit Richmond, let me know. And if you have been wanting to do a one on one how to make a hat, or learn the braid machine there are plenty of Air B&Bs and hotels, and so much to do.

I hope everyone is doing well. These are rocky times for sure, in more ways that one. I won’t be sharing my personal problems, because frankly, anything that I have going on, seems like nothing compared to the global picture. Lets hope 2024 - an 8 year of Prosperity - opens doors to new ideas, new patterns, and much much prosperity for you and your loved ones.
